This is something I think a lot about as well, Anna. I'm incredibly privileged to have a college degree and to have already paid off over $100k in student debt between me and my husband. And my degree has nothing to do with what I do every day. Focusing on degrees perpetuates a myth that everyone HAS to go to college to be worthy of a decent income and negates the obvious fact that almost everything is learned on the job.

This is one of the reasons why I think freelancing is so important for making a more equitable economy. When you're a freelancer you don't have to justify to people why you're qualified based on BS like degrees on a resume, you succeed or fail based on your ability to do the work.

You're right - the myth that you HAVE to go to college to be worthy of a decent income is incredibly pervasive. I think there's value in education, but not as a prerequisite for most forms of employment. We have to separate those two ideas.
