In February 2021, I started my new job at a content marketing agency after leaving a 15-year career at a software company. I was immediately intimidated. My colleagues were immensely talented writers. Some of them had published books or had bylines at prestigious publications. The clients were top-tier SaaS companies, paying more than $2,000 per blog post.

The writing portion of my resume only included a stint at a content farm paying writers $0.02 per word and my personal blog. I'd only recently learned to stop putting two spaces after a period when I typed and knew next to nothing about structuring a blog post for "readability."

I quickly realized that I had other skills that most of the writers didn't have. I was an exceptional project manager and kept my clients on track. I was decisive and had no problem sharing my opinions — even if it was with the COO of the company.
